2003-2007 Exhaust Parts for Car- Know Them Before you Purchase!

Exhaust gases created as a result of reaction inside the engine need to be guided away by a piping system. The exhaust system in a vehicle takes spent gases away from the engine with the help of one or more pipes. Exhaust systems differ from vehicle to vehicle. So, 6.0L Powerstroke AFE exhaust parts will fit only a specific exhaust system. Listed below are some exhaust parts:

Cylinder Head and Exhaust Manifold

There are passages in the cylinder head to allow exhaust gases to flow from exhaust valves to the manifold. The cylinder head may also contain separate ducts to allow a coolant to pass through as in the case of a water cooled engine.

Catalytic Converter

The function of a catalytic converter is to convert any toxic pollutant in the exhaust gases to less toxic. This is achieved when a redox reaction is catalysed. Catalytic converters are used in all internal combustion engines whether they are petrol or diesel based. So, even 2003-2007 exhaust parts for car will include this component. Lean burn engines employ a two way converter while a three way converter is used for all other engines. In addition to breaking down carbon monoxide and unused hydrocarbons, three way converters also reduce nitrogen oxides. Apart from automobiles, these converters are also used in airplanes, trucks, forklifts and mining machinery.

Silencer or Muffler

All 2003-2007 exhaust parts for car will employ a silencer. A silencer does not serve the primary function in an exhaust system, but it is a soundproofing apparatus. Large trucks running on diesel use Vector mufflers that involve concentric cones. Normal cars are fitted with Spiral Baffle mufflers that have a spiral system. Aero Turbine mufflers are used to create a negative back pressure in combustion cylinders.
